The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts evolved from the 1970's Variety Show - which was, at the time, the richest ever contract between a TV network and a celebrity.
Many of these shows were 'roasts', where the guest of honor was showered with insults by other celebrities in a banquet setting. In 1975, the show was spun off into a series, with Martin acting as 'roastmaster'. The show was a fixutre on NBC's Thursday night lineup until 1984.
The first 'roast' in the series is Frank Sinatra - take a trip down memory lane watching these two great friends make fun of each other - you'll get
nostalgic seeing how young and handsome they both look. The gags are dated, but still draw a good, hearty laugh. Things were very different in the 1970's and this show embodies the best of that era. If you were around then, you can't miss this classic collection, and if you are too young to remeber these superstars, here's your chance to see the leaders of the 'Rat Pack' - arguably the celebrities who started the era of superstardom.
Once you join up, you'll receive two new roasts every couple of months. Individually these are hilarious classics. As a collection they are unbeatable. You can cancel anytime, no questions asked. Each roast program is over an hour long (100 minutes approximately)
The collection includes roasts of celebrities like Lucille Ball, Carol O'Connor, Redd Foxx, Don Rickles, Angie Dickinson, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jackie Gleason, Jimmy Stewart, Johnny Carson, Michael Landon, Ronald Reagan, Jack Benny, George Burns, Muhammad Ali and Dean Martin himself!
These are some of the finest names in entertainment and sports of the era - some may say of ANY era. If you're old enough to rememebr these stars of the golden age, this collection is a refreshing, happy trip down memory lane. If not, takle a look and see how things used to be! I found myself looking forward to getting my new 'Roasts' - and savoring them when they arrived. And, keeping track of the people who asked to borrow them was a chore unto itself. Fabulous, timeless, funny and poignant! This is living history.
