My wife and I celebrated out golden wedding anniversary July 19th and we had a wonderful party. Our sons were here from back east with their kids and a big group of dear old friends and family turned up for the party. I consider us lucky, we were married in 1954 when everything seemed possible and we’re still together now, after all these years. People often ask the secret to a lasting loving relationship and there’s no one single thing. We try to listen as much as we talk, spend special time alone together every day, and appreciate all that we have.
Ever since the very old days, we always had music playing in our house – we had 78’s (LPs), and 8-tracks, then 45’s and cassettes and now CD’s. We loved to dance, hardly a week would go by without us getting all dressed up and going out to shake a leg.
As a anniversary gift, my oldest son got us the Lifetime of Romance compact disc asset, and believe me, it is the most wonderful gift we have ever received. Over the years we had forgotten some of our favorite songs and singers – when the old 8-track finally died, we lost our magnificent collection of music with it and some things are not easy to replace.
Now we have this fabulous collection of love songs, many of which I still remembered all of the lyrics 40 years later. Our anniversary party turned into a most festive, nostalgic affair. Some of our oldest dearest friends were singing along at the top of their voices. This musical collection made us think of happier times. Sinatra, Durante, Nat King Cole, Henry Mancini and my personal favorite Johnny Mathis (who still comes out to play at Christmastime). I can tell you, more than one tear was shed. We may not be able to cut the rug like we once could, but there sure we’re sparkles in some eyes. I can’t recommend this collection highly enough. It’s smooth, loving and beautiful, and harks back to how things used to be.
